Iowans can't sue over early end to COVID-19 unemployment benefits, court rules
Iowans laid off during the COVID-19 pandemic were not entitled to additional federal unemployment income refused by Gov. Kim Reynolds, a judge has found. The federal CARES act, adopted in 2020 in response to the pandemic and related economic disruptions, created several programs to increase both the value and duration of unemployment insurance benefits for the several million Americans who found themselves unexpectedly out of work. These benefits were funded by the federal government but administered through states' existing unemployment benefit systems.

Iowa man dies after hitting a tree in single-vehicle crash
RINGGOLD COUNTY, Iowa — An Iowa man died Wednesday morning after the vehicle he was driving left the roadway and slammed into a tree. James Cody Sage, 34, of Lucas, was driving a Chevrolet Express 3500 eastbound on Highway 2 near Kellerton in Ringgold County at around 4 a.m. Wednesday, according to an Iowa State Patrol crash report. The vehicle left the roadway and entered the south ditch, striking a tree.
