Bauchman remains in jail, hearing set for March 26
The preliminary hearing for a Challis man accused of damaging farm equipment and breaking into a home near Idaho Falls has been rescheduled for March 26. Michael Bauchman, 39, remains in the Bonneville County Jail in lieu of posting $35,000 bond to be released. His request for a lower bond was denied at a March 6 hearing in magistrate court in Idaho Falls. He’s charged with two counts of burglary and a count of damaging property stemming from Feb. 21 incidents in Bonneville County. He made his initial court appearance on Feb. 22 and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Challis youths share skills in 'Cinderella'
Challis youths took to the stage last week as they learned their lines and places in the classic play “Cinderella.”. A few dozen children studied for nearly a week with performers and directors from the Missoula Children’s Theatre before showcasing their talents in two public shows last Saturday.
Challis council still debating meeting dates
Challis City Council meetings will continue to occur on the second Tuesday of the month, at least in April. A public hearing to consider the city clerk’s recommendation to change the meetings to the second Wednesday of the month was held on March 12. This journalist was the lone member of the public to speak, opposing the meeting change because the second Wednesday evening of the month is when regular meetings of the Challis school board are held. Both entities meet at 5:30 p.m.
