Columbia County Wakes Up to down trees and power lines
Columbia County Ark. (KTVE/KARD) — Residents in Taylor woke up to not lights early Monday morning as storms moved through South Arkansas. Trees and powerlines on the roads and in residents yards. The volunteer fire department and county workers spent most of the night clearing roads of trees. The Columbia County Sheriff’s office spent the night working road accidents.
Caddo, Bossier foster grandparents honored with banquet
SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - The 44th Special Recognition Awards awards banquet honoring Foster Grandparent Volunteers from Caddo and Bossier parishes was held Friday, May 3. The AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program provides one-on-one mentoring, tutoring, and nurturing to children with special needs. At the banquet, special recognition was given to volunteers who have made a big difference in the Shreveport-Bossier community.
NWS confirms 6 tornadoes hit northwest Louisiana and southern Arkansas
SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) — The storms that struck the ArkLaTex on Sunday (April 28) spawned four EF-1 and two EF-0 tornadoes, preliminary storm damage surveys show. The National Weather Service office in Shreveport says the outbreak began with an EF-1 in Shreveport that caused damage at Southwood High School and in the surrounding area.

Benton to name Minden’s Shelby Leach as softball coach
Minden High softball coach Shelby Leach has been hired for the same position at Benton to replace veteran Tracey Rambin. The official announcement will be made Monday. Leach, the 2022 Shreveport Times All-Area Coach of the Year, turned around the Lady Tide program in short order that season taking a program that was 6-12 the previous season to 18-10. Leach was 55-34 in three seasons at Minden with three consecutive trips to the LHSAA Class 4A (Non-Select Division II) state playoffs.

Local doctors detect deadliest form of skin cancer
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Doctors from Ark-La-Tex Dermatology will offer FREE skin cancer screenings on Monday, May 6, 2024, which is Melanoma Monday. The goal is early detection of melanoma, which is the deadliest form of skin cancer, according to the American Academy of Dermatology (ADA). Doctors say it can be effectively treated when caught early.
