VIENNA, Va. - Jurors will enter a second round of deliberations over a recommended punishment for a Virginia man convicted of hitting and killing two teenage girls. Usman Shahid, now 20, has been convicted of two counts of involuntary manslaughter after hitting and killing 15-year-old Leeyan Yan and 14-year-old Ada Nolasco in June 2022.

Fairfax County Police charged a Lorton man in a domestic-related fatal shooting that occurred April 17. According to police, officers responded to Mount Vernon Hospital at around 11:35 p.m. on April 17 after Alison “Kate” LaPorta, 38, of Lorton, was brought to the hospital by her boyfriend, Huy Tien Nguyen, 47. LaPorta suffered a gunshot wound to her upper body. She was taken to Fairfax Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
