CVS in Springfield one of hundreds closed nationwide

    By Mike Landis,

SPRINGFIELD, MO. – One of the city’s longtime CVS locations looks to have been on the retailer’s chopping block.

Drivers passing the store on South Campbell Avenue at Battlefield Road will notice the location is now permanently closed. The windows are covered and crews have removed all signage from the building.

In a call to the store, the person answering the phone confirmed the closure and said it’s the only one of the CVS locations in Springfield affected.

In 2022, the chain announced it would be closing hundreds of stores through 2024. A list of store closings wasn’t released at that point. The company said the closures were part of a shift in focus due to population changes and customer buying patterns.

The remaining CVS stores in Springfield include those on East Elm St. near National Avenue; West Republic Road at Golden Ave; East Republic Road at National Ave; and East Battlefield Road at Lone Pine Ave. CVS also operates the pharmacy inside the Target store on S. Primrose St. and S. Glenstone Ave.
