SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – After three people were injured in a two-car crash on Boston Road last week, Springfield residents are calling for immediate action to improve safety in the area.

On Tuesday night, community members gathered for a meeting with Springfield Police to discuss their concerns and potential solutions. Those living in the area tell 22News that more police patrols and speed bumps are necessary to prevent future accidents. They say radar speed signs alone can’t fix the problem.

“We have this here speeding on Boston Road is so bad now that we have trouble with the school buses they are there picking the kids up and they don’t care. They fly by, we sit out there and watch them. We gotta have a cop follow a bus just put something down on these people,” expressed Edward Demars of Springfield.

He also believes that installing more pedestrian crosswalks on the road would greatly improve the safety and accessibility of the area.
