Suspected bank robber arraigned after U.S. Marshals arrest him hiding in Illinois
JACKSON, MI – Federal agents located in Illinois a man suspected of robbing a bank in Jackson and brought him back to the city to face charges. Jarred Lamoyne Mihaila was arraigned Monday, May 13, on one count of bank robbery in connection with a hold-up March 6 at a branch of America One Credit Union at 718 E. Michigan Ave., court records show.
$7M Jackson training facility will offer chance for careers in advanced manufacturing
JACKSON COUNTY, MI – A new training facility near Jackson aims to help prepare youths and adults for careers in manufacturing. During its 87th annual meeting on Monday, May 13, the Jackson Area Manufacturers Association, along with The Shop Rat Foundation, announced the purchase of a 26,000-square-foot facility at 3517 Scheele Drive in Blackman Township.

I-94 closures are coming to Jackson County for continued construction
JACKSON COUNTY, MI – A bridge over I-94 is closing in Jackson County for construction. The Michigan Department of Transportation is closing the M-99 bridge over I-94 starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 21. Additionally, MDOT will close a single lane of eastbound and westbound I-94 under the M-99 bridge, officials said.
Wanted man found with bomb in car pleads guilty to drug, weapon charges
HILLSDALE COUNTY, MI – A wanted man found with a pipe bomb in his car will not be going to trial. Arriving to his first court appearance in the Hillsdale County Circuit Court Monday, May 6, Joseph Michael Lazarus pleaded guilty to two of six felony charges, canceling any further trial proceedings, court records show.

Union eyes better wages as contract negotiations begin with grocery giant’s mid-Michigan stores
The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union local union 951 aims to secure better pay for its 1,000 members who work at mid-Michigan Kroger stores. Courtney Phillips, secretary/treasurer of UFCW 951 and the chief negotiator for the contract, said members see “wages and then wages and then wages” as their “big issue” in the contract discussions.
