ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Family and friends of Maria Eichas , the 18-year-old and former Spencerport student who was killed in a crash in Parma last week, coming together to pay their respects.

The amount of people who stopped by the Greek Orthodox of the Annunciation Church on East Avenue Sunday afternoon to remember Maria wrapped around the entirety of the church.

In addition to those who stopped by the church, local businesses and organizations including Olympia Restaurant announcing they will be closed Monday, the day of Maria’s funeral.

In a Facebook post , the restaurant calls Maria a “young, vibrant, and close family member whose life was cut too tragically short.”

Maria died in that crash on June 2 when an accused intoxicated driver, Alexander Hackett, 33, was driving on Burritt road in Parma when he hit the back of Maria’s CRV which was parked on the shoulder of the road sending it into a tree. Maria was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Hackett was also hospitalized for injuries that were not life threatening and allegedly told police he didn’t know he was driving on Burritt Road at the time of the crash.

He was arrested at the hospital and charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter. A scheduled court appearance this past Thursday for Hackett was waived. He remains in Monroe County Jail and is being held on $40,000 cash bail.

A GoFundMe was started to raise $30,000 for the Eichas family. Her funeral mass will also take place at the Greek Orthodox of the Annunciation Monday morning.
