Rotation Near Juliette Prompts Special Weather Statement as Isaias Rain Band Could Spin Up Brief Tornado in Georgia’s Monroe and Jones Counties

FORSYTH, GA — Radar detected rotation in a tropical rain band near Juliette, about 9 miles northeast of Forsyth, prompting a Special Weather Statement Saturday. The storm was moving north at 25 mph through parts of Monroe and Jones counties. There is an enhanced risk that a brief tornado could form quickly from this storm. Residents in the affected area were urged to be ready to take shelter with very little notice.

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Thousands of people are without power in south Georgia as Hurricane Isaias moves through the area. The storm made landfall around 9:30 p.m. as a Category 2. Landfall was made right around Destin, Fla. As of midnight, the counties with the most outages were Quitman, Clay, Decatur, Randolph, and Calhoun.
