Editor’s Note: Track Record
FOR THE BETTER part of two decades, from the mid ’90s through the aughts, I spent the Sunday of each Memorial Day weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway absorbing the sights and sounds of the Indianapolis 500. While I dreaded waking up around 5 or 6 a.m. to pack up necessities for the day—food, drinks, sunscreen, and seat cushions—I learned quickly that the best way to avoid race-day traffic is to arrive at the track early and go home early. My group tailgated for breakfast and exited the bleachers immediately when the checkered flag dropped. Everything that happened in between made up for the drowsiness and naps that would inevitably follow in the late afternoon.
Financing a pro soccer team would waste Indianapolis tax dollars
As recipients and supporters of traditional tax benefits continue to suffer, a few of the city's influencers once again attempt to take control of tax revenue needed by all. Most believe that the traditional use of tax revenue benefits, such as aiding the underserved and supporting public education, city services and infrastructure, are the aims that benefit the general wellbeing of most Indianapolis citizens.

Football recruiting: Ben Davis DL Isaiah White has four official visits lined up
No offense to his teammates, but Isaiah White spent so much time with the opposition last year he plans on doing it more as a senior. White, a sturdy 6-3, 300 pounds, made 11 ½ tackles for loss as a junior on Ben Davis’ Class 6A state championship team. His 69 total tackles ranked fifth on the team and is first among returners. And his 7 ½ sacks ranked only behind senior defensive end Jalen Harris’ 11.

1984: Before Airbnb and VRBO, race fans relied on people like Mim Cork
SPEEDWAY — Attending "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing" typically involves a lot of planning: tickets, food, adult beverages, sunscreen, and for the out of towners, lodging. Rental apps make finding a place to stay much easier today than it was 40 years ago. Before Airbnb and VRBO, word-of-mouth was the only way to find a place to stay, and one of Speedway’s most accommodating hosts was a woman named Mim Cork.
