SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn. (WTNH) – The dog who was abandoned and tied to a tree by his collar last month in South Windsor is now up for adoption!

Kobe, who is now named Obie, is now up for adoption at the Tyler Regional Animal Care Shelter. The shelter said they already have a list of interested parties who would like to adopt Obie, but they will be very particular with their choice for the dog’s new home.

A person walking their own dog came upon the Obie in the Frank Niederwerfer Wildlife Sanctuary. He was tied to a tree branch by his collar, still tight around his neck.

Obie’s former owner, 26-year-old Janiya Bradford of Manchester, turned herself into police Thursday and is being charged with cruelty to animals and tethering a dog to a stationary.

She is due in court on June 5.
