M.A.C.T. Hosts Groundbreaking For Miwuk Cultural Museum
Angels Camp, CA — A groundbreaking celebration was held Monday morning in Angels Camp for the new M.A.C.T. Miwuk Cultural Museum and Administration Building. The site is at 64 South Main Street behind its existing medical building. M.A.C.T.’s Executive Director John Alexander and Chairman of the Board Justin Baugh welcomed the nearly 100 in attendance at the event, and noted that the idea of the museum started about 16 years ago when the healthcare group was contacted by the family of Dr. Cooper of Angels Camp who would receive baskets from many Miwuk people as a form of payment back in the sixties.

Sonora, CA – Two Mother Lode counties are holding rabies vaccination clinics, and one is also offering microchips for pets. Both welcome dogs and cats. In Tuolumne County, animal control will be holding a rabies vaccination clinic this Saturday, June 3, at its shelter located at 10040 Victoria Way in Jamestown, behind C & C Mini Mart. The cost is $10, and they only take cash or checks. Owners are also asked to bring their renewal forms for each pet to speed up the process.

Rare Wolverine Sighting Confirmed in Tuolumne County
Tuolumne County, CA – Take a look at the photo in the image box, as it is a rare sighting of a wolverine photographed in Yosemite National Park in May. Wolverines are the largest terrestrial member of the weasel family and resemble small bears. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has confirmed what is believed to be the same wolverine at least three times last month in the Eastern Sierra Nevada mountains, one in Yosemite. The other two sightings were in the Inyo National Forest in Inyo and Mono counties.

June 5, 2023 - Wreckless Strangers is a collective of six seasoned Bay Area musicians featuring Amber Morris (premier Bay Area vocalist and voice coach for members of Journey, Eric Martin Band) on vocals; David Noble (Poor Man's Whiskey, Pardon The Interruption) on lead guitar, vocals; Joshua Zucker (The Jones Gang, Rowan Brothers) on bass; Mick Hellman (The Go To Hell Man Band) on drums and vocals; and Rob Anderson (repeat world champion cyclist) on guitar. Oakland-based hip-hop, jazz, and soul pianist Kev Choice will join the band for the three Sierra town shows. From historic watering holes and outdoor festivals to free community celebrations and beer gardens to Zen barns, there are a variety of places to catch the Wreckless Strangers and their brand of “California Americana Soul” over the coming months.
More Camping Opportunities At New Melones For the Holiday Weekend
Sonora, CA – Those wanting to get outdoors for Memorial Day Weekend will have another camping choice at New Melones Lake. The Bureau of Reclamation is reopening the Acorn Campground at the lake’s Tuttletown Recreation Area tomorrow, Friday, May 26, through Tuesday, May 30. Resources at the site include a boat launch, a day-use area, a frisbee disc golf course, and around eight miles of trail for hiking or mountain biking.
