Why are flags at half-staff in Kentucky?

FRANKFORT, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — Gov. Andy Beshear has ordered flags at all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Saturday in honor of a Somerset-Pulaski County EMT, Chastian Tyler McWhorter , who died in the line of duty on Monday.

Funeral arrangements made for Kentucky EMT killed in crash

McWhorter, 26, died after the Somerset-Pulaski County ambulance he was driving crashed into a semi-truck.

McWhorter, from Albany, had been employed with Somerset-Pulaski EMS since December 2022 and left behind his wife, whom he married in July, children, including a newborn expected in July, family members, and fellow first responders.

McWhorter’s funeral and visitation services are scheduled for Saturday at Clinton County High School.
