Dog shot, buried by owner, prompting hours-long standoff in central Maine
NORRIDGEWOCK, Maine — The Somerset County Sheriff's Office says a man is being held in county jail on several charges after an hours-long standoff in Norridgewock on Monday. Witnesses reportedly called law enforcement to Red Barn Road just before 9 a.m. for an armed man "screaming and hollering" outside his home. The man, later determined to be 32-year-old Nicholas Eckert, was also allegedly threatening anyone who called the police.

NORRIDGEWOCK, Maine — A Maine man is facing charges after a police standoff in Norridgewock Monday morning. Shortly before 9 a.m. Monday, Somerset County deputies responded to a report of a man who was "screaming and hollering" outside his Norridgewock home on Red Barn Road, the sheriff's office said in a release.
