Sheriff’s Areas 1 & 2 Report May 14-20, 2023
The Navajo County Sheriff’s Office reported the following activity in Areas 1 and 2 during the period of May 14-20. Areas 1 and 2 include Joseph City, Woodruff, Sun Valley, Goodwater, Adamana, unincorporated areas of Winslow and Holbrook, and parts of the Navajo and Hopi reservations that are located within the boundaries of Navajo County. Persons who were cited, charged or arrested by deputies are accused of committing criminal activity, but such accusations should raise no inference of guilt.
Holbrook Arrests May 17-22, 2023
The Holbrook Police Department received 67 reports during the period of May 17-22. During that time officers responded to 11 citizen assists, six each of 911 hang ups, intoxicated persons, suspicious activities and welfare checks, five thefts, four disorderly conduct incidents, two each of agency assists, information requests, messages delivered, incidents not classified, traffic collisions and warrants, and one each of alarm, animal problem, assault, alcohol offense, criminal nuisance, marijuana possession, DUI/drugs, loitering, trespassing, shoplifting and criminal damage.

NPC Friends and Family Announces Fall 2023 Scholarship Winners
After conducting multiple classes for students about how to apply for scholarships along with a simplified, online process for submitting applications, NPC Friends and Family (NPCFF) received 49 applications for the fall 2023 semester. Scholarship winners included 33 continuing students and seven recent high school graduates who will go on to work toward their associate degrees from Northland Pioneer College (NPC).
City Council tables charter review committee selection
The Holbrook City Council convened May 26, during which the council discussed and then tabled the appointment of charter review committee. The council received nine letters of interest for the committee, including those from Richard Peterson, Kent Darris, Merrill Young, Robin Gonzales, Mark Romo, Steven Carbonneau, Rebecca Slade, Connie McPherson and Gretchen Herndon. “I was super thrilled to get nine letters of interest for this position. It’s nice having people come and talk. I know that we’ve got a lot of citizens that are very civic minded, we appreciate their willingness to serve,” stated Mayor Kathleen Smith.
