Hit-and-run hearing for 14-year-old struck in Smithfield continued to July

SMITHFIELD, Va. (WAVY) – A Gloucester woman who is charged with a felony hit-and-run involving a 14-year-old boy has had her preliminary hearing continued to July 29.

According to officials, 31-year-old Chanice Atkinson was arrested on Nov. 6, two days after the 14-year-old walking a motorbike was hit on Benn’s Church Boulevard.

The boy was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash, having to recover from a long list of injuries.

Isle of Wight Clerk officials told 10 On Your Side that Atkinson’s preliminary hearing was scheduled for 11 a.m. on April 22, but state the hearing has been continued.

Atkinson’s next court date is scheduled for July 29.
