Northwestern Pennsylvania's top track and field athletes will gather at Slippery Rock University on Saturday to chase records and PIAA meet berths at the District 10 championships.

At least one of the D-10 records set at last year's meet is in jeopardy if Anne-Catherine Brown has her way.

Brown, a sophomore distance runner for the Cathedral Prep Ramblers, is favored to win the Class 3A girls 3,200-meter race amid the action at Slippery Rock University’s Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. The field events will start at 10 a.m. and the track events at 10:30.

Brown is seeded first in that eight-lap event at 10 minutes, 48.16 seconds. That time is more than four seconds faster than the meet record established by Sarah Clark, a former teammate.

Clark just concluded her freshman year as a cross country and track runner for Virginia’s George Mason University. Last year’s district-winning time of 10:52.52 is the record Brown seeks to eradicate.

Going into Saturday, the 3A girls 3,200 is one of 10 events where athletes have top-seeded times or distances that are better than current district records.

The following, in alphabetical order, are Erie County participants and others to follow in their quests to qualify for the state meet over Memorial Day weekend at Shippensburg:

    Class 3A girls

Josslyn Hancock, so., Hickory: She’s favored to sweep the 100 (12.55) and 200 (26.21) sprint races. She’s also listed as the anchor for the Hornets’ top-seeded 400 relay (51.71).

Caroline Lewis, sr., McDowell: Her top-seeded distance of 105 feet, 7 inches is the only one beyond 100 in the javelin field.

Libby Opp, jr., General McLane: She favored as an individual (400 at 1:01.70) and as the anchor for the Lancers’ 1,600 relay (4:17.84).

Megan Puleio, so., Meadville: Her top-ranked seed time of 2:14.27 in the 800 is better than the event’s record of 2:16.97, held by Grove City graduate Hana Casalnova since 2010.

Lauren Raimy, sr., Cathedral Prep: The Fordham University recruit, at 5:03.43, is favored to win the 1,600. Any time in that neighborhood would break the four-lap race’s current standard of 5:05.24, which Mercyhurst Prep’s Lindsey Havko has held since 2002.

Logan Anderson, sr., General McLane: His long jump distance of 23-8 exceeds the 1994 meet record (23-6¼) established by Idris Cates of the former Strong Vincent Colonels. However, he’s also favored to win his specialty events, the 110 and 300 hurdles.

Magnus Lloyd, sr., General McLane: The Edinboro University wrestling recruit is the projected gold medalist in the javelin (169-9).

MJ Pottinger, jr., Grove City: The current star of the Eagles’ cross country and track programs is listed as the individual favorite for the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 races. His seed times for the 1,600 (4:13.91) and 3,200 (9:12.36) are comfortably lower than the meet’s current records respectively held by Cathedral Prep’s Luke Brown (4:15.39 in 2023) and McLane’s Dylan Throop (9:22.59 in 2021).

Cooper Robson, sr., General McLane: He’s listed first for the high jump competition at 6-6.

Benny, sr., and Leonardo Whitaker, sr., McDowell: The brothers comprise the front half of the Trojans’ top-seeded 400 (43.12) and 1,600 (3:29.35) relays. Benny also is favored to win the 100 (10.88) and Leonardo the 200 (22.39).

    Class 2A girls

Ella Corritore, sr., Fort LeBoeuf: The fourth-year Bison, who plans to compete for the United States Coast Guard Academy’s track and field program, is the meet’s favorite for the 100 hurdles (14.98)

Jordan, jr., and Camryn Fox, sr., Corry: The sisters bracket teammates Haley Mumua and Haeleigh Bayle for the Beavers’ top-seeded 3,200 relay (10:07.18).

Maya Jeckavitch, so., Wilmington: The star sprinter for the Greyhounds is favored for first in the 100 (12.35) and 200 (25.72).

Karis McElhaney, jr., Greenville: She’s listed atop the seeds for the 800 (2:17.07) and 1,600 (5:08.48) fields.

Emily Samluk, sr., Fort LeBoeuf: Aided by Bison coach Erick Friedman, a former world master’s titlist in the javelin, she’s favored in that event with a distance of 121-6.

Milena Sciullo, so., Grove City: She recorded the state’s best height in the high jump for a portion of the PIAA’s regular season. Her current best of 5-6¼ was still good for the top seed in that event, as were her distance of 17-8 for the long jump and 38-9 for the triple jump. The latter exceeds the 2015 meet record of 38-5, held by Wilmington’s Hannah Drake.

Morgan Wilhelm, sr., Seneca : She’s a first-place favorite as an individual (300 hurdles at 47.21) and as the opening leg of the Bobcats’ 1,600 relay (4:11.95) with teammates Olivia Paris, Madison Morvay and Mackenzie Nelson.

    Class 2A boys

Camden Bryant, sr., Mercyhurst Prep: The Slippery Rock recruit anchors Vincent Feliciano, Jacob Applebee and Craig Buckner for the Lakers’ 400 relay that’s favored at 42.52. It’s the exact time as Hickory’s 2013 meet record.

Geremia Dell’omo, sr., Girard: He’s favored to win the triple jump based on his season-high attempt of 44-9½.

Ethen Knox, sr., Oil City: The Mercyhurst University football recruit, who will graduate as one of the great athletes in Oilers history, is favored in the 100 (10.92), 200 (22.23) and the discus (153-6).

Levi Prementine, sr., Slippery Rock: The PIAA’s reigning long jump champion begins postseason defense of that title as district’s favorite at 22-10. He’s also seeded first for the meet’s 300 hurdles competition at 39.29.

Caleb Prettyman, sr., Franklin: The Penn State University recruit is a considerable favorite for the 1,600 and 3,200 races. His seed time for the 3,200 (9:04.67) is nearly six seconds faster than the 9:10.54 meet record that Grove City’s Mike McWilliams has held since 1990.

Reed Yost, sr., Seneca: If he can match his top-seeded height of 15-6, he’ll erase the meet’s record of 15-3 that Hickory graduate Eric Sparks has maintained since 2005.

Mike has worked for the Erie Times-News editorial department since 1997 and full time with its sports department since 2004. He was the sports editor for the former Titusville Herald from 1991-93.
