Organizers confident they will succeed in triggering recall election for St. Tammany coroner
SLIDELL, La. (WVUE) - People working to trigger a recall election against the St. Tammany Parish coroner say early indications show they will succeed in their effort. The new coroner, who was accused but not convicted of sexual assault against a child in New Mexico in 2001, says his work continues undeterred. There have been a flurry of public events to generate signatures in an effort to recall Dr. Christopher Tape, and recall organizers say they are confident that they will be able to meet a signature deadline in just over five months.

After hearing from a wetlands specialist Monday night, Covington-area recreation district officials have decided to proceed with getting a land donation from Regina Coeli. Babs Pelligrini of J.V. Burkes and Associates said of the 35.83 acres Regina Coeli is donating, 19.49 are classified as wetlands. Pelligrini told the board of directors of St. Tammany Parish Recreation District No. 10 that they should avoid using the wetlands portion of the property if at all possible.

Voters in Slidell approved a new sales tax for police on Saturday. The sales tax, just over one-third of a cent, will replace two existing property taxes that had been dedicated to the police department. The sales tax is expected to bring in around $4.5 million annually, a substantial jump from the $1.3 million the property taxes generated.
Addie Altland makes music possible for more in Mandeville
While attending a local concert last summer, live music fan Addie Altland, a junior at St. Scholastica Academy in Covington, noticed a lack of attendees with special needs. That observation ultimately led Altland to create Music Without Limits, which she hopes will make live music at the Mandeville Trailhead Amphitheater more inviting to those with disabilities or sensitivity to noise and crowds.
