Three vehicle crash on Highway 169
MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - A DNR officer’s truck was rear ended by an SUV and pushed into a sports car on Tuesday around 11 a.m, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. Officer Corey Paul Wiebush of St. Paul, 55, was conducting a traffic stop on Yabsir Bisrat Suga of Mankato, 19, when Andrew John Seitzer of St. Peter, 45, rear ended Wibush’s 2019 Ford F150 with his 2020 Ford Escape and lunged Wiebush’s truck into Suga’s 2003 Toyota Celica.

Flames engulfed a basement in Mankato's quiet residential stretch Tuesday afternoon, with the city's Department of Public Safety racing to the scene after panicked calls from residents. At 748 James Avenue, two occupants detected the acrid scent of smoke billowing from their basement, their quick thinking in alerting authorities may have saved lives. As reported on the department's official Facebook page, the blaze broke out at 12:34 p.m., prompting an immediate evacuation of the duplex apartment, all occupants made it out unharmed before firefighters arrived to confront the inferno.

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - National Police Week started this week on Sunday, May 12 and will go until Saturday, May 18. In 1962, former U.S. President John F. Kennedy signed a public law designating May 15 as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day and stating that the week that day fell in would be National Police Week.
St. Peter Police looking to implement body cams
By the beginning of 2025, the St. Peter Police Department is aiming to equip its officers with body worn cameras. During an annual report to the St. Peter City Council on Monday, May 6, Police Chief Matt Grochow announced that department was currently in the process of reviewing cost estimates to provide each of its officers with body worn cameras.
