Man pleads guilty to obstruction
A Ladysmith man accused of resisting or obstructing an officer after his brother allegedly led a Rice Lake police officer on a high-speed chase through the city pleaded guilty to the charge on Thursday in Barron County Circuit Court. Jacob J. Shimko, 38, appeared before Judge J.M. Bitney and pleaded guilty to misdemeanor resisting or obstructing an officer. Two felony counts of bail jumping were dismissed but read into the record. Bitney ordered Shimko to pay court costs and he was given 60 days to pay or set up a payment plan. An arrest warrant had been ordered for Shimko as he had not appeared on May 8 as scheduled. It was never issued as the defendant appeared in court the next day.
