Do you know these two Shasta Family YMCA Athletes of the Week?

One gymnast and track athlete are being recognized for their outstanding achievements on the mat and circuit.

This week, a Bella Vista Elementary and Foothill High School student-athlete are being highlighted. It's time to meet the two Shasta Family YMCA Athletes of the Week for their accomplishments over the last few weeks.

Yessenia Vega-Sanchez

Sport: Gymnastics

School: Bella Vista Elementary

Class: 7th grade

Team contributions: Sanchez competes for the Nor Cal Elite Gymnastics team, is a two-time state champion on the floor event, and won first place as the All-Around Gymnast at a USA gymnastics state meet this year. Her 9.775 floor score earned during the USA Gymnastics state meet in Visalia puts her on the top 100 list for Xcel Diamond Gymnast in America. She qualified for regionals held in Arizona at the end of the month.

Mason Calvert

Sport: Track and field

School: Foothill

Team contributions: The Foohtill men's track and field team took home first place at the Jim Deaver Hornet Invite on April 13 with a team score of 310.5. Calvert finished first in the men's 200-meter race with a time of 22.92; first in the 4x100 relay with a team time of 43.74; first in the 4x400 relay with a team time of 3:39.74; and third in the 400-meter race with a time of 51.09. Foothill competes in the Sweet Elite District Meet on Wednesday followed by the West Valley Invitational on Friday.
