Lots of sunshine and calmer winds today, but a gusty evening awaits in the Kittitas Valley
A persistent ridge of high pressure will continue to dominate much of the surface conditions this week. As the ridge keeps spinning in the Eastern Pacific it will have enough rotation to generate a few different lows to the north of it which will travel around the ridge into Southern British Columbia before dropping into Northern Idaho and Western Montana. Think about how gears in a machine turn against each other. As the lows develop and move across to the north, we will see a tight pressure gradient near the Cascades that will lead to gusty and near windy conditions in the Kittitas Valley and Yakima Valley. The northern portion of the state near the Canadian border will have a better chance of seeing any chance of showers this week as Southern Washington and Northern Oregon are well enough into the ridge to remain sunny, dry and warm.
