Emily Fowler and Kierra Ehnes grabs top honors at Entrepreneur Pitch Finals
A pair of 19-year-old coeds walked off with the $6,000 grand prize from the second annual Northeast Colorado Entrepreneur Pitch Finals on Thursday. Kierra Ehnes and Emily Fowler, both graduates of Julesburg High School in Julesburg, pitched their CrutchBuddy to the four judges in the ballroom of Northeastern Junior College’s Hays Student Center. The triangular plastic device they pitched fits on the end of a crutch to give it stability and better traction. The result is better mobility for patients recovering from leg and foot injuries.
HPD re-registers offender
The Haxtun Police Department re-registered a sex offender living within Haxtun's city limits. Steven Michael Saign lives in the 200 block of North Wallace Avenue. According to the local police department, Saign is a dual resident, meaning he is registered at two locations; one on North Wallace Avenue and a another on County Road 7 in Phillips County. This is his required quarterly registration.
Bamford signs to play softball with NW Kansas Technical College
A successful four-year high school softball career has afforded Fallon Bamford the opportunity to compete at the collegiate level next fall. Bamford, recent Haxtun High School graduate, signed a letter of intent to join the softball team at Northwest Kansas Technical College in front of family, coaches and supporters two week ago.

Chamber of Commerce announces Bornhofts as Grand Marshals
Cork and Trilla Bornhoft have been selected to serve as the 2024 Haxtun Corn Festival Grand Marshals. The Haxtun Chamber of Commerce recently announced the Grand Marshal selection along with this year's theme. Grand marshal and theme selections are chosen by Chamber of Commerce members. The 2024 Corn Festival theme is "Harvesting Memories."
Haxtun Board of Education selects Jones from initial 10 applicants
Following a long application and interview process, the Haxtun Board of Education selected the next Superintendent of Haxtun Schools. The Board voted to appoint Aron Jones as Superintendent starting July 1. That decision came on Tuesday afternoon, May 14 following candidate in-person interviews earlier that day and a community meet and greet the night prior.
Bulldog track takes 4x100 and 4x200 relays; earns Runner-Up
The Haxtun Bulldog track team put in an impressive showing at the 2024 Colorado State Track Meet at Jeff. Co. Stadium in Lakewood last weekend. The boys team brought home the State Runner-Up Title and earned two first place finishes while several Lady Bulldogs earned top three placings in individual events.
Veteran shares stories with students
VETERAN DENNIS Patriquin recently took a trip to Washington, D.C. as part of a Veteran's Honor Flight. As part of that flight, students from Haxtun Elementary sent cards and letters of well wishes and thanks. Following the flight, Patriquin reached out in effort to meet the students who wrote to him and other Veterans. He visited Haxtun Schools last week sharing stories, photos and mementos from his recent trip. Above, he is pictured with Mrs. Dana Davis' third grade class.
Severe Weather Possible Today
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Starting today, we have an active day ahead. We have a slight (2/5) risk for severe weather in Cheyenne and the areas in yellow which means we’ll see scattered storms that are strong to severe. In Sidney and the orange area we have an enhanced (3/5) risk for severe weather which means we’ll likely see more widespread storms. These storms today will likely bring heavy rain and gusty winds and also has a good chance and dropping hail for us through southeast Wyoming and Nebraska. There is also a chance of tornadoes with these storms. Tornadoes are unlikely to form however, they cannot be ruled out so have ways to receive warnings about severe weather through today just in case any warnings are issued.
