Research alliance results confirm environmental benefits
Alltech and Archbold formed a strategic research alliance in 2019 to jointly develop beef management approaches, specifically to increase the quality and quantity of beef produced in subtropical regions while maintaining and enhancing the environment. The Archbold–Alltech Alliance brought together scientists from two different disciplines — ecologists from Archbold and ruminant nutritionists from Alltech — to understand the impact that cattle production at Archbold’s Buck Island Ranch has on the ecosystem and the ability to sequester carbon.
New Lakeland VA clinic, 5 times the size of the old one, is nearly ready to open
Lakeland's veterans clinic will begin moving into its new building off Lakeland Highlands Road next month. Vanessa Osting, chief medical officer of the Lakeland VA Clinic, gave a presentation on the new site to Lakeland Economic Development Council members on Tuesday afternoon. Osting said staff will move into the new facility at 2080 Meadowland Park Blvd., behind Sam's Club, from May to June in a phased approach.

Florida police have arrested a woman on nearly 30 charges of animal cruelty after responding to reports of animal neglect and hoarding. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office found the home of Catherine Briley, 66, in disarray on Wednesday with more than 30 animals roaming free. Bowling Green Raises Cemetery Plot Prices

Central Florida Health Care gets a shot in the arm with money to expand Polk clinics
Central Florida Health Care is expanding its clinics by square footage and services offered as indigent health care demand rises in Polk County. The Polk County Commission approved a $3 million contract with CFHC on March 5 for the health care provider to build a new community health center on the current three-acre site in Dundee. The Lakeland facility also gained $3 million in a separate contract approved the same day by the board.
