Local roundup: Crestwood girls lacrosse hands Scranton Prep first loss

Crestwood handed Scranton Prep its first loss of the year, and the Comets remained unbeaten themselves in Wyoming Valley Conference girls lacrosse with a 12-7 win over the Classics on Saturday.
Jackie Gallagher had a standout performance for Crestwood, scoring six goals and assisting on two more. Gia Caporuscio had a hat trick, while Hannah Ziegler scored twice and Ella Novelli had one goal. Morgan Koons made 10 saves for the Comets.
McKenna Toolan and Alexa Kleinberger each scored twice for Scranton Prep.

SOFTBALL
King’s swept
The Monarchs wrapped up their season with a pair of losses to FDU-Florham, falling 4-3 and 6-1 on Senior Day at Betzler Field.
Emily Novicki and Nina Anzalone each had two hits and an RBI in the first game. Anzalone would score the only run for King’s in the second game, driven in by Madison Badali.
Wilkes drops a pair
The Colonels came up on the wrong end of 5-1 and 4-2 losses to Susquehanna University in the home finale for Wilkes.
Hana Cross drove in the lone run on a solo homer in the first game for Wilkes. Kayla Burleson’s two-run home run in the nightcap drove in the two Wilkes runs.
BASEBALL
MU earns sweep
Two stellar pitching performances led the Cougars to 7-1 and 2-1 wins over Stevens to wrap up their conference schedule.
Steve Rinda struck out six in 6.2 innings in the opener, while Connor Maryniak and Matt Lanzendorfer combined for nine strikeouts in the nightcap. Maryniak also had two hits in the opening-game victory.
Wilkes loses two
The Colonels lost the first game 4-3 before falling 7-3 in the nightcap with Susquehanna. The Colonels led 3-2 in the eighth inning of the first game before allowing two runs to score and the lead to get away.
Tyler Hmielewski had two hits and drove in two runs in the first game. Chase Vrabel had two RBI in the second game.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Misericordia 26, FDU-Florham 16
Michelle Torzilli and Skylar Dowling each laid claim to a new Misericordia single-game record with 12 points each as the Cougars won on Senior Day.
Torzilli’s 10 goals in the contest also tied the school’s single-game record. Dowling set her own new record as well with nine assists.
The Cougars travel to Lebanon Valley for the MAC Freedom semifinals on Wednesday.
Catholic 20, Wilkes 2
The Colonels were overwhelmed by Catholic in the season finale, with Wilkes wrapping up their debut Landmark Conference season with an 0-9 league record.
Maleah Cobham and Anmarie Lebron each scored for Wilkes.
MEN’S LACROSSE
Misericordia 19, FDU-Florham 4
Connor Bevan set the Misericordia single-season scoring record in a season finale victory for the Cougars.
Bevan’s four goals upped his total on the year to 59, a new school record. Jared Pelliccione led the team with five goals, while Michael Kilgallon III scored four goals of his own, including his 100th career score.
The Cougars will head to Stevens on Wednesday for the MAC Freedom semis.
Catholic 24, Wilkes 6
The Colonels’ season came to a close with a loss on the road at Catholic University.
Colby Opromolla led Wilkes with three goals. Joseph Marino made 17 saves for the Colonels.
King’s 12, Delaware Valley 7
The Monarchs were able to end the season on a high note with a road win over Delaware Valley.
John Wall and Ryan Lynch had four goals and two assists each for King’s.
TRACK AND FIELD
King’s Novrocki sets records
Andrew Novrocki’s winning time of 22.18 seconds in the 200 meter dash set the new school, event and Betzler Complex records at the Monarch Open.
King’s overall had five winners in the Open, including Eric Johnson in the 800 meter run, Cody Miller in the long jump, Patrick Bennie in the triple jump and Carnell Kemp in the discus.
On the women’s side, Katey Shoemaker set both the Monarch Open and Betzler Complex records in the hammer throw to lead a stellar day for King’s.
