Video shows Pennsylvania students stopping runaway school bus

Pennsylvania students recently stopped a runaway bus when their driver experienced a medical emergency . The incident took place on Sept. 17 as students near a Hollidaysburg Area School District junior high building, according to Ben Caldwell, director of human resources and transportation. Security footage from inside the bus shows students exiting the bus while it's stopped. Then, it slowly starts to move forward, and one student asks the driver if she can exit. As the bus continues to move, students realize something is wrong and spring into action. Several students scramble to the front while others direct them to press the bus' brakes and call for help over the radio. "Our bus driver just passed out," one student says near the end of the 40-second clip. A few students fall forward during the incident, but "all injuries were extremely minor and superficial," Caldwell said. The driver is doing well and has returned to work, Caldwell said. The designations came through a process built by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation , which lets municipalities or regional organizations that manage ATV trail networks request a route designation. The idea is to stitch together trails that already exist so riders can travel between them on approved roads, closing gaps that once forced them off the trail. The connectors are meant to bridge larger trail systems, not to serve as standalone riding areas. Five of the new routes are in Fox Township, Elk County, all connecting to the Trail of Dreams.
