Lanier rallies for victory at Alpharetta in Game 10
ALPHARETTA — The Lanier football survived against the Alpharetta Raiders for a 21-17 win on Friday night, finishing the regular season with a 5-5 record. The Longhorns trailed 17-14 before a fourth-quarter touchdown, then held off an Alpharetta drive in the waning seconds. “I’m proud of my guys for fighting,” Lanier head coach Tyler Maloof said. “In a game like that, you have to come back in the fourth quarter and get a stop. It wasn’t pretty, but that’s what happens when good teams find a way to win.” On the Raiders’ first offensive possession, Nick Diepetro led off with a couple of runs and he gave the Raiders a first down following a 6-yard run, advancing the ball to the Longhorns 46. A few plays later, quarterback R.J. Graham completed a 9-yard pass to Kyron Pipes on third down, advancing the ball to the Longhorns 16. The march ended with a field goal for a 3-0 edge. On Lanier’s second possession, Dominic LaRocca completed a 19-yard pass to Aden Jones on third and 8, advancing the ball to the 31-yard line. On the next play, the Longhorns committed their first turnover of the game as the fumble was recovered
