Dry & hot before more Monsoon rain returns

Passing high-level clouds and leftover lower-level clouds with hardly if any showers are present with calming east-gap winds bringing in low-level moisture into parts of Rio Grande Valley in lieu of yesterday's thunderstorms, as well as some moisture in southern areas. Temperatures are starting off seasonably mild to cool. Some patchy haze from fire smoke has mostly migrated or dispersed to far-northern parts of our viewing area, but visibility is mostly good, despite the somewhat-humid start in some eastern areas.Similar temperatures are present than yesterday morning with mostly around-average to slightly above-average morning temperatures present region-wide, as northern areas are mostly starting off in the high 30s to lower 60s. Elsewhere to the south, air temperatures are mostly ranging from the upper 50s to the lower 70s in southern areas. Many areas from eastern New Mexico to the Pecos River Valley area will range from the 80s to just above 100° from north-northwest to south-southeast from high to low elevation. The northern higher elevations will mostly range from the high 60s to the lower 70s, while the northern valley floors to western and central areas will mostly range from the high 80s to around 100°. Sinking, compressing air with the drifting Monsoon high pressure system aloft farther to the southwest, as well as plenty of sunshine, will lead to the warmer-than-average heat.Isolated to locally scattered thunderstorms, which will form in the mountains to eventually the southeastern three-fourths of the region, may be capable of producing downpours of rain, some hail, very erratic wind gusts, and frequent lightning strikes. The fire threat will mostly be elevated today in northwestern areas.Surrounding the Monsoon high pressure drifting to the southwest, trapped upper-level moisture is being stretched out across the region from the northwest, as well as some lower-level moisture from the Gulf to the southeast.Moisture will then return as the high pressure system starts to return around the region this weekend, bringing in not only more thunderstorms, but a drop in temperatures as well.
