Flash Flood Watch Covers Mobile, Baldwin, Geneva, and Houston Counties in South Alabama With Over 2 Inches of Additional Rain Possible Today

ALABAMA — Rain is widespread across South Alabama early Sunday, and a Flash Flood Watch is in effect for Mobile, Baldwin, Geneva, and Houston counties, as well as the Florida Panhandle. Additional rainfall today could exceed 2 inches in these areas. Periods of rain are likely statewide, though amounts will be much lighter over northern Alabama. A broad tropical low could then bring more widespread rain to the Deep South next weekend.

RAIN & STORMS AT TIMES TODAY; PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN THROUGH THE WEEKEND… Heavy rain will be possible *at times* across south Alabama and northwest Florida today and through the weekend. Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected at times through Sunday evening. Thankfully, widespread, significant severe weather remains unlikely. Heavy rain will be the main concern, with localized flash flooding possible as we move through the weekend. Rain coverage will be widespread at times, but that does not mean uninterrupted rain in every community. High temperatures will be in the upper 80s today with low to mid 80s tomorrow for highs due to all of the clouds and rain around.

HERE COMES THE RAIN – WEEKEND EXPECTED TO HAVE RAIN & THUNDERSTORMS… We’re set to enter a significantly wetter weather pattern on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and into Monday as deep tropical moisture moves into south Alabama and northwest Florida. For now, this looks like a big rain event through the weekend with multiple rounds of rain being likely. The good news is the overall severe weather risk remains LOW for now. Maybe not entirely zero, particularly Saturday P.M. I suspect the main issue in the days ahead will be a lot of rain capable of producing isolated instances of flash flooding. Cloud-to-ground lightning will be a concern in the storms that develop as well. There has been a lot of online chatter about a potential Gulf tropical system in 10-14 days. Details about that are below.
