Sanger West baseball gains 2nd-place tie in NYL
FRESNO – The Sanger West High Hornets have joined the second place logjam in the North Yosemite League baseball standings. Pitchers Angel Martinez and Cesar Gonzalez combined to limit Sunnyside High to three hits while collecting 11 strikeouts Tuesday afternoon, and the Hornets pushed across single runs in the third and fourth innings to edge the Wildcats 2-1 at SWHS varsity diamond. Sanger West (18-10) joined Sunnyside, Hoover and Torres in a three-way tie at 8-5 behind NYL champion Fresno High.

SANGER – The top track and field athletes in the Mid Valley Times region this week are beginning their respective journeys to the California State meet later in the month. Central Section championship meets take place in four divisions on Friday, May 10. Sanger High will host the Division 1 meet (4 p.m. field, 4:30 p.m. track) at Dodson Field in Sanger. Other meets with local schools will be D-II at Golden West HS in Visalia (2:30-3 p.m. for Dinuba High); D-III at Kingsburg High (3-4 p.m. for Reedley, Orosi and Sanger West); and D-IV at Caruthers High (2:30-4 p.m. for Immanuel, Orange Cove and Parlier).
