Salt Lake City, Utah, is one step closer to landing its second Winter Olympic Games after the International Olympic Committee announced it would be entering a "targeted dialogue" with the city for the 2034 Winter Games.

Alta lost in the state semifinals Nov. 9 to 10th-seeded Bountiful by the count of 20-19, ending the Hawks’ season at 10-4. The game was back and forth all night long, but Bountiful scored the winning touchdown with a minute left to play, erasing a 19-14 deficit to go up for good.

This season, both the boys and girls once again sent a full team to the state championships on Oct. 26.

SALT LAKE CITY– The proposed gondola that would stretch eight miles up Little Cottonwood Canyon is bad for the 2034 Olympics, said Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson. It isn’t guaranteed that Salt Lake will host the Olympics, but being chosen as a “preferred host” this week greatly improved the city’s chances.

The Miners girl’s basketball squad fell once more on Thursday evening, this time losing 63-24 to the Alta Hawks on the road. The Miners trailed for the entirety of this contest, following a rough start which saw them take a 19-6 deficit into the second quarter. A bright spot for Park City was the return of senior guard Leah Yaeger, who scored a team-high six points on the night, after exiting the team’s previous contest with an injury. Next up for the Miners are the Mountain View Bruins, who they’ll hit the road to face on Monday at 7 p.m.

In a deep and talented field of runners and teams, the Riverton cross country team more than held its own. At the Oct. 26 state meet, Riverton placed fourth in Class 6A on both the boys’ and girls’ side. The boys had five runners in the top 61 of all participants, including three in the top 25. Meanwhile, the girls edged out Herriman and were 34 points behind third-place Westlake. The girls placed three runners in the top 25 and five in the top 48.
