SAND SPRINGS, Okla. — The 24th Annual West Side Alliance (WSA) Soccer Club Cup Tournament in honor of Kinsey Wright kicked off at the Case Community Park in Sand Springs and at the Jenks Sports Complex on Friday.

FOX23 spoke with Kevin King who is one of the assistant coaching directors with WSA in Sand Springs on Saturday during the second day of the tournament.

King said they have roughly over 210 teams participating in the tournament with five or six states represented.

“It’s a good event for not only Sand Springs, but also for Tulsa, Jenks and the surrounding areas,” King said.

King said his favorite part about the tournament is seeing all players and families from all over the soccer community come together.

“I think just everyone from not only the Tulsa surrounding area, but in different states getting to see new teams and everyone’s enjoying being a part of the soccer community. I think that’s the best part of it,” King said.

King said all the players are wearing pink bands in honor of Wright who was a WSA soccer player who passed away following a car crash on her way to soccer practice in October 2023.

“We just wanted to honor her memory and hope that she will still be with us in memory for this event,” King said.

Multiple awards will be given out at the end of the tournament in honor of Wright for those who exemplify the qualities of a great teammate that Wright embodied as well as awards for the best goalkeepers, which was Wright’s position.

There is also a message banner and a tribute video in memory of Wright at the tournament.

The tournament will continue on through Sunday.
