Affordable Housing in Palm Coast-Flagler: Plenty of Ideas, Not Enough Political Follow-Through
The Palm Coast Community Center was not the place to be this afternoon if you wanted to hear cheery answers and simple solutions to increasing the dismal stock of affordable housing in the city and the county. But it was the only place and one of the rare times in recent years where local governments–the county and Palm Coast–devoted a serious forum to explore difficult questions and realistic possibilities to bring more affordable housing to the region.
Larsen Receives Pleasant Surprise
INTERLACHEN – Family members and town officials shocked their mayor Tuesday with an award to recognize his 20-year anniversary in leadership. The celebration happened during Tuesday’s meeting of the Interlachen Town Council, which Mayor Ken Larsen first joined as a council member in 2003. He was elected mayor 10 years later.
As Gov. Ron DeSantis mulls vetoes, Volusia, Flagler projects land on budget turkey list
In a state budget comprised of $117.5 billion, Florida TaxWatch has identified 450 "turkeys," or projects that bypassed the normal appropriations process. At least five of the projects identified are from Volusia and Flagler counties, home to two of the Florida House's most powerful members, House Speaker Paul Renner and Appropriations Chair Tom Leek. One of the highest-dollar projects is in historic St. Augustine in St. Johns County, part of Renner's 19th district.

Emergency Lane Closure on Belle Terre Pkwy at Pine Lakes Pkwy
Palm Coast– An emergency lane closure on Belle Terre Parkway is scheduled for Monday, May 20, 2024. This closure is necessary to perform critical repairs to a manhole. The construction will take place on Belle Terre Parkway at the northern intersection of Pine Lakes Parkway, just before the left turning lane on Belle Terre Parkway northbound. This is in the “B” section of Palm Coast near the Pine Lakes Apartments. Proper Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) will be set up starting at 8:00 a.m. The lane is expected to be reopened by the evening of the same day.

Animal lovers across Putnam County crowded around a pile of dirt Tuesday to celebrate the beginning of the building phase of the county’s new animal shelter. Current and former county commissioners, Animal Services staff, leaders from every county municipality and animal lovers expressed their excitement after they saw the first pile of dirt shoveled in Tuesday’s groundbreaking ceremony for the new Putnam County Animal Services Department building, 130 Orie Griffin Blvd. in Palatka.
