Kristal Haralson splits her time between three families every day at San Marcos High School. Mornings are with her first family—students with special needs in a self-contained classroom. Outsourcing inmates continues, case backlog shrinks
Hays County Jail is full and has been outsourcing inmates to other jails for years. Due to the high population of incarcerated people, Hays County has been implementing various programs to attempt to divert people from the jail, such as the mental health court that was recently established and the pretrial services department. Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra has a standing agenda item during each commissioner court meeting in which he reads the current jail population, the amount of inmates outsourced and the cost. Bobcats advance to match play, fall to Arkansas State
Texas State made a run at the Sun Belt Conference Men’s Golf Championship advancing to match play after three rounds of stroke play. The Bobcats fell in the semifinals against Arkansas State losing 4-1. Going into the third round of stroke play, Texas State sat in 7th place. The Bobcats finished three shots under par to finish the third round in fourth place to clinch a spot in the four team playoff in match play. Senior Kasper Nyland was the highest placing golfer for the Bobcats shooting one over par over the three rounds good enough for seventh place. Sophomore Sakke Siltala finished in 15th place shooting four over par, and Senior Marcelo Garza placed in 32nd place shooting seven over par. Rattlers wrap up first week of spring practice
, San Marcos kicked off the week returning to the gridiron. The Rattlers are coming off an 0-10 season, but you wouldn’t know it from the vibes at their second practice. HCWC receives final payment of $644,000 grant from Hays County Commissioners
Funds stem from American Rescue Plan Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center accepted the second half and final payment of the $644,000 grant unanimously approved by the Hays County Commissioners Court in August of 2022. This grant, funded through the Hays County allocation of the American Rescue Plan (ARP) and the Local Fiscal Recovery Fund, proved critical financial relief to HCWC in order to mitigate and recover from the extraordinary expenses and revenue loss resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and to cover a much-needed expansion to the McCoy Family Emergency Shelter. Bobcats advance to NCAA Regionals, play in Bryan
Texas State learned their postseason fate this past Wednesday after winning the program’s first conference championship since 2016. The Bobcats were selected to play in the Bryan Regional at the Tradition Club golf course May 6th through 8th. Texas State will compete against 11 other teams including Texas A&M, SMU, Sam Houston, LSU and Clemson. Coming into the Bryan Regional, Texas State dominated the Sun Belt Women’s Golf Championships. New federal rule would bar 'noncompete' agreements for most employees
U.S. companies would no longer be able to bar employees from taking jobs with competitors under a rule approved by a federal agency Tuesday, though the rule is sure to be challenged in court. , , San Marcos is back on the gridiron for the start of spring practice in preparation for the 2024 season. The Rattlers are coming off an 0-10 season from 2023 and will look to snap an 11-game losing streak heading into the fall. San Marcos will also have to replace several key starters from last year’s squad including quarterback Kutter Gage Webb, wide receiver/defensive Tony Diaz, offensive lineman Brendan Jones and offensive lineman Ory Williams. Hays County company offers fire retardant available to protect homes from wildfires
Wildfire Prevention Corporation, an organization that specializes in providing safeguards against wildfires, has come to the Texas Hill Country. They have partnered with Perimeter Solutions to treat properties with PHOSCHEK, a groundbased, long-term fire retardant. The retardant is approved by the U.S. Forest Service and has been used since the 1960s. It is safe for people, livestock, pets, and vegetation.
