At least one person was killed Saturday night in a crash on Interstate 5 in downtown San Diego that shut down all southbound lanes of the freeway for about five hours overnight.

The fatal crash occurred about 10:10 p.m. near the exit to Imperial Avenue in the East Village area of downtown, according to a California Highway Patrol incident log.

Some 911 callers told CHP dispatchers that the victim had been on a motorcycle, though others reported the victim was a pedestrian, according to the incident log. The victim's body ended up in the freeway lanes.

Several vehicles were involved, either in the initial collision or as vehicles in front of them braked for the crash, according to the CHP log, which indicated that medics responded to the scene for several injured people.

No other details of the crash were immediately available Sunday.

Caltrans San Diego posted on social media that all southbound lanes of the freeway were closed for more than five hours, until about 3:30 a.m. Sunday.
