El Viejón Seafood , a Mexican-influenced seafood restaurant that features an Asian twist, is opening a new location in Otay Mesa at 1620 Millenia Avenue, Unit 101 .

The company’s second location is set to replace El Tianguis Millenia in the Millenia Town Center , according to co-owner Luis Gonzalez , who tells What Now San Diego that he expects to open this new site in mid-May 2024 . El Viejon Seafood opened in the Convoy Street Plaza in 2021, and this is the first time the company is expanding to a new location. Gonzalez also owns Lupe’s Mexican Eatery in San Diego and Orange County and Holy Paleta in Bonita and Little Italy.

El Viejon offers a menu of Mexican seafood dishes with an Asian twist, “exotic” seafood towers, and seafood tacos. The restaurant specializes in mariscos, a menu based on traditional seafood specialties from Sinaloa and Baja, including raw plates featuring scallops or chocolate clams, fiery agua chiles, and Ensenada-style fish and lobster tacos. To differentiate El Viejon from other mariscos spots, each dish has an element of Asian flavor or ingredient. Customers can expect an interactive, fast-casual counter, build-your-own ceviche, and various sauces. There is also a variety of beer, Micheladas, margaritas, bottled Mexican sodas, and craft agua frescas.

“Our team loves to innovate, come up with new concepts and challenges, and serve the highest quality of seafood and ingredients to become the best Mexican-Asian seafood spot in San Diego,” according to the company’s website. We are excited to welcome our customers into our new concept in seafood with an Asian twist at Convoy District. We want people to see El Viejon as a place to enjoy great seafood with great ambiance.”
