Man arrested for illegal dumping in San Benito

SAN BENITO, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — A man was arrested Monday for illegal dumping in San Benito, authorities say.

Reynaldo Martinez Silva, 44, was arrested on charges of illegal dumping after he allegedly dumped roofing shingles at an area other than the landfill.

Authorities responded to the scene after a caller informed them that they saw a man driving down Iowa Gardens Road in a white pick-up truck with a trailer attached. The witness said the man was accompanied by four other individuals who helped him dispose of the roof shingles that were occupying the back of his trailer in a large blue tarp.

Cameron County Sheriff’s deputies then found the owner of the white pick-up truck identified as, Martinez Silva. Martinez Silva informed Cameron County Sheriff’s deputies he had removed the roof shingles off his residence and was going to dispose of them at the Brownsville City Landfill.

He said that as he was driving to Brownsville, noticed the landfill was closed and decided to illegally-dump the shingles at the 29000 block of Iowa Gardens Road. Martinez Silva took full responsibility of the illegal dumping.

He was transported to the Carrizales Rucker Detention center where he was booked for the above charge.
