Café operator enjoys making exotic sandwiches

Melissa Gay said business at her café in the northwestern part of the city has been great, with consistent customers coming in and with new customers coming in from all over. Gay said Wednesday afternoon that, in fact, someone was going to be coming in from Virginia the next day after seeing her postings on social media. Gay has The Well Fed Cheetah, which offers boxed lunches and offers sandwiches, candied jalapeno pimento cheese, chicken bacon ranch dips, pasta salads and desserts. The Well Fed Cheetah began serving customers July 13 and had an official opening ceremony Wednesday afternoon. The business is off Benvenue Road between Independence Drive and North Wesleyan Boulevard and inside the same location as the Remedy This ... Naturally! health foods store. Gay said the reason for the flood of customers is because she offers exotic choices of sandwiches and posts images of them on social media. The Well Fed Cheetah has 71,000 followers on Facebook. Gay said that one sandwich that is popular is turkey with a cranberry fluff with candied pecans. The sandwich includes lettuce and tomato drizzled with honey. Bub Jackson's birthday celebration planned

Anyone who notices smoke rising on Cedar Landing Road on Saturday, Nov. 7, in the vicinity of Tim Bazemore’s property — breathe in and enjoy the aromas of Bub Jackson’s birthday celebration. Bertie County’s Bub Jackson Hunting Preserve will once again be celebrating its namesake’s birthday. The event may cause a traffic backup on Cedar Landing Road as the crowd is expected to top 500 attendees this year. Last year 350 people enjoyed the celebration featuring chefs from across the country, each preparing a special wild game dish. The flavor fest of food presented by culinary professionals could have aired on the Food Network. This year the line up is extensive and the activities throughout the day have been expanded to include skeet shooting for beginners, target practice for beginners, fishing and feasting. A variety of activities are planned for the children, including leaf rubbing along with ‘nature is our studio’ activities. The event will feature 12 chefs from across the country, some traveling from New Orleans and Ohio to celebrate Jackson.
