SANDY, Utah ( ABC4 ) — Dreamscapes, an immersive art exhibit located in The Shops at South Town, just announced a temporary closure and move due to NHL Utah’s move into the area.

In a press release, Utah Arts Alliance , the nonprofit that runs Dreamscapes , said due to the contracts between The Shops at South Town and Smith Entertainment Group, they will be moving out of their current location at the end of June.

Dreamscapes originally started as a temporary art experience at the Illuminate Festival in 2017. It expanded into a location at The Gateway, then later moved to the Shops at South Town in Sandy two years ago .

“Smith Entertainment Group recently purchased South Town and the land around it. They plan to build out the space Dreamscapes currently resides as an NHL practice facility. Utah Arts Alliance is not involved in their build, and therefore do not know details, but are excited for the new opportunities this will bring to Salt Lake and to see South Town continuing to be a community space,” the release said.

Utah Arts Alliance said they are committed to continuing to provide Salt Lake City with unique art experiences and are using this time to re-imagine Dreamscapes, what art will be showcased, and how to continue supporting artists.

The alliance is also continuing work on its Art Castle project where they are rehabilitating a 120-year-old 15th Ward Chapel into a community gathering space and immersive art attraction.

This is the third move for the Dreamscapes exhibit due to changes in leasing agreements. Utah Arts Alliance said they are focused on renovating the Art Castle so the organization has a permanent home for programming and events.

As for Dreamscapes’, a new location for the exhibit has not been finalized, but several options are currently being considered.

“Utah Arts Alliance is thankful to have spent two years as part of the South Town community and having the opportunity to bring new audiences to Dreamscapes. UAA will continue to share updates about Dreamscapes as details of the move are finalized,” the release said.
