Chaffee County Women Who Care (CCWWC) has announced its final financial award recipient for 2023. On Tuesday, October 10, 2023, local women across Chaffee County gathered at A Church in Salida to hear funding proposals from three local organizations, including ElevateHER, Salida Circus, and Haven for Hope. After each nonprofit representative gave her pitch on how funding would be used and the potential impact of the group’s support, the CCWWC membership voted for the winning finalist.

Sole Finalist for Salida City Administrator is Christy Doon
The City of Salida has issued a press release stating that the City is pleased to announce that the sole finalist for the position of City Administrator is Christy Doon. Doon is currently serving as the interim City Administrator for the City of Salida. She was hired last year as Assistant City Administrator and stepped into the role of Interim Administrator in August of this year.
Monarch Mountain opens for the season Wednesday thanks to a weekend snow storm
SALIDA, Colo. (KKTV) - Monarch Mountain announced Wednesday as their opening day for the winter season. Monarch Mountain’s Marketing Director, Dan Bender, was anxiously waiting for a snowstorm to hit so they could officially open the mountain for the winter season. from Dec. 2 through the 4 saw a total accumulation of 24 inches of snow. That number is expected to grow by six more inches this Friday.
GOCO board awards $18,700 grant to Town of Buena Vista for trail development projects
On Friday, the Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) board awarded a $18,700 grant to the Town of Buena Vista to help build portions of the Tater Tots and Walton Loop Trails. This effort will launch the one-mile beginner mountain bike “TaterTots Singletrack Loop”, and continue work on the half-mile “Walton Loop” ADA Compliant Trail, a loop for all ages and abilities.
