BLM Prepping Multiple Prescribed Burns in Deer Haven and Waugh Mountain Areas
The Bureau of Land Management is preparing two prescribed burns. The annually scheduled burns will take place as weather conditions permit. The Deer Haven area is slated for a prescribed burn 15 miles northwest of Canon City. Another burn is planned on the north side of Waugh Mountain 20 miles northeast of Salida.

Buena Vista Trustees to Consider Intergovernmental Agreement to Create a Collective SWAT Team
Buena Vista Trustees will conduct a regular meeting tonight, Sep. 26th, beginning at 7pm. Trustees will consider an intergovernmental agreement with Chaffee County, the City of Salida and the Town of Buena Vista for a Collective Special Weapons and Tactics Team and will vote on amending the municipal code related to trees on public property.

Expect Smoke from Mt. Shavano Prescribed Burn
The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office notified residents that the Forest Service is conducting a prescribed burn this week in the Mt. Shavano area and smoke will be visible. The project involves burning up to 915 acres near Droney Gulch, six miles northwest of Poncha Springs. Temporary road closures of portions of Forest Service Roads 250, 250A, 250B, 251 and 255 will be necessary to provide for public safety. Other roads in the area will be open to provide alternate access options.
Arrested Car Thief in Pueblo Possibly Tied to Fremont County Home Burglaries
Pueblo County Sheriff's office apprehended a suspected car thief, Nathan Maxwell, on Sunday, Sept. 17. There are allegations that Maxwell may also be linked to several burglaries in Fremont County on the same day. A Fremont County family who were affected by the burglary claims to have encountered Maxwell on their property earlier that day. They found broken windows and heirloom items missing shortly after Maxwell left.
