Youngstown’s Apocalyptic Lovers offers thanks to Austintown student choir for vocal help
Members of the rock band Apocalyptic Lovers recently made a surprise visit to the Austintown Middle School Choir to drop off thank-you packages to kick off the summer. In October 2023, Choir Director Megan Keown and her students recorded backing vocals for the Youngstown-based four-member rock band’s newest album, “And the World Tomorrow,” slated for release at the end of June.

Dana School of Music invites aspiring musicians to music camp. When will it be held?
Area teens with a passion for music are asked to take part in a summer music camp at Youngstown State University. YSU’s Dana School of Music announced the return of its Summer Music Camp and Vocal Performance Clinic, according to a press release. The camp will take place from June 9 to June 14, with week-long musical intensives that promise to provide unforgettable experiences for aspiring musicians aged 13 to 18.
Pocket park honors historic Salem department store site
If you grew up in Salem, you may remember McCulloch's Department Store located along East State Street. The site of that former store has featured a park for decades. With the help of the Salem Preservation Society and dozens of community donors, the city unveiled the park's beautification efforts on Wednesday.

BODYCAM: Driver caught going 122 mph on I-680 in Youngstown because he 'had to pee'
Speeders on the roadway are nothing new to troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, but it's not every day you'll find a driver going over 70 miles over the speed limit. That's exactly what troopers with Mahoning County OSP found on I-680 in Youngstown on Saturday, May 18 when they caught a driver going 122 miles per hour in a 50 mph zone. That's 72 over the speed limit.
Mahoning County affected by power outages
MAHONING, COUNTY, Ohio (WKBN) – Over 700 people were without power in Mahoning County Sunday night. As of Monday morning, only a few scattered outages remained. At one point, 723 people were without power in Youngstown and the surrounding areas.
