Watch: Dashcam video shows a man pulled from burning vehicle in St. Paul

A man who helped pull another man from a burning car on I-94 in Saint Paul last week says persistence led to the heroic rescue.

"We didn't give up," says Kadir Tolla who was among the people who helped pull the driver out. "We keep running away and running back, and then finally they smash the window so we pull them out."

Kadir Tolla told Vineeta Sawkar on the WCCO Morning News that the car door couldn't be opened. The man who was inside the car did not suffer any severe injuries.

Tolla says he hopes his act is inspirational.

"Yeah, I believe this happened for a reason, because this is a hard time that we all go through throughout the world," Tolla explained. "And this kind of video, like brings the humanity back."

Minnesota Department of Transportation crews smashed the vehicle's window after the door was jammed against a guard rail. Tolla says it was persistence that that likely saved the man's life.
