High water levels in Minnesota rivers causing danger in water and on trails
SHAKOPEE, Minn. (FOX 9) - Across Minnesota right now, rivers are unpredictable, fast moving and dangerous due to high water levels from a recent deluge of rain. Over the weekend, authorities in Shakopee had to perform two water rescues along the Wilkie Trail within eight hours of each other. In both cases, first responders say the individuals attempted to pass through a flooded section of the trail and got swept away.
St. Louis Park Announces Cedar Lake Road Closure, Major Projects Underway to Revitalize Infrastructure
Residents and commuters in St. Louis Park should brace for the upcoming road closure that's about to hit Cedar Lake Road. Starting June 10, a stretch of Cedar Lake Road, specifically between Jordan Avenue and the east driveway of Westwood Lutheran Church, will be closed to traffic. This shutdown is scheduled to continue until July 31, connecting with the broader ambitions of the Cedar Lake Road and Louisiana Avenue Improvements project.
Local smoke shops prepare for $15 cigarettes
With less than a month until the city requires cigarette packs to be sold at a $15 minimum, many local tobacco shops are already seeing the price hike take effect. The Minneapolis City Council unanimously passed the cigarette price ordinance on April 25 which will take effect July 8. According to MPR, this is likely the highest price in the country.
Minneapolis Honors Fallen Officer Jamal Mitchell with Memorial Service at Maple Grove Senior High
The City of Minneapolis and the entire local community are preparing to bid farewell to a dedicated public servant, Officer Jamal Mitchell, who tragically died in the line of duty on May 30. A memorial service to honor his service and memory has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, at the Maple Grove Senior High School, located at 9800 Fernbrook Lane N., Maple Grove. The Minneapolis Police Department, together with Officer Mitchell's family, are extending the invitation to those who wish to pay their respects.

MINNEAPOLIS — Five queens were crowned for the first-ever Miss Juneteenth Minnesota State Pageant on Saturday in St. Paul. Contestants, pageant officials and more than 300 family and community members celebrated Juneteenth and the event's theme Rediscovering Our Culture and Redefining Our Freedom at Hamline University's Sundin Music Hall.
Challenge course opens in Bloomington
Finding a playground in the Twin Cities metro for littles is pretty easy, but a new one in Bloomington is perfect for the teens who want a challenge. The Smith Park Challenge Course is open now in near Interstate 494 and Highway 77. The park includes a timed 40-yard dash race track, an obstacle course for kids ages 13+ and an all-inclusive play structure for all ages. The playground is from local company, MWP Recreation. It’s the second of its kind in the Twin Cities. There’s another challenge course in Golden Valley, two in Jordan and another on the way in Lakeville.
