Ted Drewes Frozen Custard celebrating 95 years of business

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Ted Drewes Frozen Custard has been a staple in St. Louis for almost a century, with millions have flocked to one of it two locations on Chippewa Street and on South Grand Boulevard to try out and taste their frozen custards and "concrete" ice cream over the years.

On Thursday, the business is celebrating 95 years of operations, with many celebration plans that will take place that day, including face painting for the kids, an appearance by Fredbird, the Cardinals mascot himself, and many more.

"We know we're going to make it to 100 years, but 95 years seems very significant," said Travis Dillon, Owner of Ted Drewes Frozen Custard on Total Information A.M. Wednesday. "This Thursday, we're going to have a pretty large crowd I think."

The celebrations will also be a chance for those to help with three charities Ted Drewes is supporting, with Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital , Stray Rescue, and St. Louis Food Bank will also be attendance.

"We going to help them out and hopefully the families that come would like to help out too," said Dillon.

Dillon thinks the success that Ted Drewes has achieved for nearly a century comes down to the store's belief in quality and service that helps keep them be consistently excellent.

"We have a sign inside that says ' our business is service'" said Dillon. "Ted Sr. and Ted Jr. were both were very big into pay attention to details and get to the window before the customer get there and get them what they like as soon as possible."

Those who attend can also take home a 95 cents ice cream cone deal that day. The celebration will take place form 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Chippewa location and it is free and open to the public.
