2 dead in South City including suspect was in hours-long standoff with police

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) -- Two people are dead in Monday evening shooting in Tower Grove South, including one man who was found dead in a house after exchanging gunfire with police officers.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded just before 9:30 p.m. Monday evening to a shooting in the area of Hartford Street and Bent Avenue. When they arrived to the scene, they found a woman dead on the porch of a home.

Police say a man inside in the house refused to come out, and started shooting at officers and then they returned fire.

Hours later, the suspect was found dead inside the house. Police did not say whether the man shot himself or if he was hit with bullets they fired.

No officers were hurt in the shooting.
