Maren Conrad said it was unfortunate a mural she’d painted outside Vic’s Ice Cream in 2021 was painted over Tuesday morning, leaving a blank white wall. But her biggest gripe was a claim that Vic’s made on Instagram that it had attempted to contact her. “I don’t have a single missed phone call, missed voicemail, missed text message, missed email,” Conrad said in a phone interview Wednesday morning. “I mean, I’m not a hard person to get a hold of.” The landmark Land Park ice cream shop – which reopened in January following a change in ownership after the death of longtime owner Craig Rutledge – painted over Conrad’s mural that adorned the outer wall of Brew Bird, a cafe that shares a building with Vic’s. Jason Williams, a hairstylist working across the street Tuesday evening said that the whitewashing happened around 10 a.m. Work that Conrad created across the street as part of the same project appears to have been untouched. How and where the hogs are raised, and what they eat, informs the final food product. This particular hog was raised at PT Ranch in Ione, about an hour southeast of Sacramento in Amador County. The California Automobile Museum contains a rich array of vehicles, everything from a 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 to a 1978 Kawasaki motorcycle that appeared on the TV show “CHiPS.” Less impressive is the exterior of the museum at 2200 Front St. in Sacramento, a circa 1953 warehouse. But the building’s aesthetics could be changing, with the museum announcing recently that it intends to do a $2.5 million renovation that could transform the entrance to the building and add an event space. “This has been a long-term vision that we have had, knowing that we want to look like more than just a warehouse,” said the museum Executive Director Karen McClaflin. “We want to look like an auto museum.” What the auto museum is planning The renovation, which the automobile museum hopes to break ground on in the spring, will focus on three areas: the current entrance; a shed area connected to the museum that it currently uses for storage and car maintenance; and the museum’s current event space of roughly 5,500 square feet.
