New signs coming to Greenwood Healthy Streets

This fall, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) will be working on the Healthy Street signage along 1st Ave NW, N 100th St, and Fremont Ave N in Greenwood. Healthy Streets started during the pandemic in 2020 as a way to get people outside more. They have several safety features like easier crossings at busy streets, speed humps to slow down drivers, and pavement markings. When it first established the Healthy Streets, SDOT installed fixtures like concrete block bases and painted curb bulbs to signal the start of a Healthy Street—the upcoming project will secure the sign bases to the streets.

How the Federal Way Link Extension Impacted Bus Ridership Patterns

In December 2025, Sound Transit welcomed the first passengers aboard the Federal Way Link Extension. The three new stations on the 1 Line provide improved transit connectivity for many south King County residents. An accompanying bus service change in March 2026 improved frequency on many bus routes and adjusted a few bus routes to better connect with the new Link stations. While some routes lost ridership, many other routes welcomed new passengers. Link increased the total number of transit trips in south King County with nearly 10,000 combined weekday boardings at Federal Way, Star Lake, and Kent Des Moines stations.
