Mounted police units offer tradition, spectacle and service in modern law enforcement
On Monday, the Allegheny County Mounted Police Unit will add a touch of tradition and spectacle to the South Hills Memorial Day Parade. While officers on horseback are a rarer sight than those in cars or on motorcycles, “They definitely create a presence,” said Sgt. Jason Donaldson of the Allegheny County Police Department’s Mounted Patrol Unit.

South Hills Memorial Day Parade set to begin along Brookline Boulevard
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- One of the largest Memorial Day parades in all of the Pittsburgh area is set to get underway later this morning.The South Hills Memorial Day parade will kick off at 10:00 a.m. along Brookline Boulevard. Before the parade, Pittsburgh councilman Anthony Coghill will read a declaration marking the Brookline Memorial Cannon as a historic monument.Three rounds will be fired, 'Taps' will be played, and then the parade will begin.Miss Pennsylvania, veterans from World War II, and five costumed characters including the Pirate Parrot and Iceburgh will be among those marching in today's parade, which is in its 90th year. Horses from the Allegheny County Police Department's mounted unit will also be in the parade and a low-level flyover from the Air Force Reserve's 911th Airlift Wing is set to take place around 10:30 a.m.
Crash brings down power lines, shuts down part of McKnight Road
UPDATE 11:10 p.m. According to Duquesne Light Company, there are no longer power outages in Ross Township. UPDATE 7:20 p.m. - As of 7:20 p.m. Duquesne Light was showing 980 power outages in Ross Township. A portion of a busy Ross Township road is because of power lines across the roadway.

PITTSBURGH — The widespread storms have exited, so only isolated severe storms are expected through sunset. Rain will taper off overnight with areas of dense fog possible Sunday morning. Clouds will increase late on Sunday as rain is possible after 8pm. Periods of rain will be around during Memorial Day, so not a washout, and an afternoon storm can't be ruled out. Just like today, wind and rain are the primary concerns, and Monday is now upgraded to a Severe Weather Alert Day. Showers will be intermittent through Wednesday when we finally dry out and will be more seasonal into the first weekend of June.
