PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- While four eggs were laid in the peregrine falcon nest on top of Pitt's Cathedral of Learning, it looks like there will only be two chicks this year.The first egg hatched on April 22, and the other two eggs quickly followed. The aviary on Monday pointed out that dedicated viewers of the Peregrine FalconCam may have noticed that the fourth egg hasn't hatched. National Aviary Ornithologist Bob Mulvihill said an egg fails to hatch for several reasons. Update: Southwest Pa. under a flash flood warning Sunday night
On Sunday at 8:24 p.m. the National Weather Service issued an updated flash flood warning in effect until 10:30 p.m. for Allegheny, Washington and Westmoreland counties. "At 8:24 p.m., Trained weather spotters reported flooding along Main Street in New Eagle due to heavy rain within the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly, most likely in low-lying areas," according to the weather service. "Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas."
